Offers will be sent on a rolling basis. Applicants have 48 hours to accept.

By applying, you are committing to DISC for not only the next school year but also for this upcoming spring quarter. Your exec workload will be minimal during spring 2026, but we will be asking you to attend weekly exec meetings and shadow present members in preparation for taking on their roles in the coming school year.

Time Commitment

  • Fall Quarter: 4-5 hours/week (Weekly exec meeting, weekly workshop meeting, & weekly tech-lead syncs)
  • Winter & Spring Quarters: 2-3 hours/week (Weekly exec meeting, tech-lead syncs)
  • In general, workload varies week to week depending on events, preparing templates, recruiting season, etc...

Responsibilities

  • Run the Fall Workshop Series (create educational content about web development topics, run weekly workshops, evaluate assignments, maintain website)
  • Shape the Discover Program application process (determine application process, interview candidates, make decisions, publish information)
  • Run the Discover Program (prepare/maintain project templates, run weekly studio meetings, provide guidance to teams, enforce attendance requirements)
  • Update and maintain DISC websites (workshop series website, DISC website, documentation website)
  • Attend weekly exec meetings and tech-lead syncs

We're Looking For

  • Teaching, mentoring, and coaching experience
  • Ability to explain things clearly to beginners
  • A passion for educating and leading others
  • Industry SWE internship experience (or expected internship experience for this coming summer)
  • Strong proficiency in at least one area of web dev: frontend development (React, HTML, CSS), backend development (APIs, databases), UI/UX design (Figma)
  • Good coding skills
  • Someone who is fun to work with

FAQs

Who can apply to be on the exec board?

Any Northwestern undergraduate or graduate student who will be enrolled during the 2026-2027 academic year is eligible to apply.

Note: We will consider applications from students who will be studying abroad or on co-op during the academic year. However, all exec members must be available to attend weekly exec meetings and fulfill their role-specific responsibilities.

Do I need prior experience with DISC to apply?

Although prior involvement with DISC is helpful (e.g Discover program, fall workshop series, general member event attendance), it is not required. We are looking for new and innovative ideas and more importantly, passionate individuals who align with our mission, are committed to the role(s) that they apply for and generally want to push DISC even further.

Can I apply for multiple positions?

Yes, you can apply for multiple positions. Just indicate your preferences in the application form.

What is the time commitment for exec board members?

Time commitments vary by role, but all exec members must attend weekly meetings and fulfill their role-specific responsibilities. Most positions require 2-5 hours per week.
